2018–19 TENTATIVE Schedule
Mondays and Thursdays 6–7:15 pm | Skills development by age/experience level
Saturdays 11 am–12:30 pm | Hockey scrimmages with all players
Skaters fall into 3 divisions
The divisions are named for cold-weather animals that live in the neighborhood (Como Zoo). Kids will be recommended for the three divisions based on size, age, and ability during the first couple weeks and may be recommended for advancing throughout.
Arctic Foxes
Arctic Foxes are beginners (typically age 5–9). If you are coming for the first time, show up on a Fox night.
Snow Leopards
Snow Leopards are in transition. They can be of any age, but based on size and ability, they are a fit to skate with either group. They can skate both with the Foxes, where they’ll be the leaders, and Wolves, where they can learn from the bigger kids.
Wolves
Wolves are the bigger kids and strong skaters (typically age 9–12).
Typical weekly schedule
Monday Nights
Wolves and Snow Leopards skate for an hour and fifteen minutes. We work on hockey and skating skills and play small games. Arctic Foxes and their friends and parents can use the other half of the ice.
Thursday Nights
On one-half of the rink, Arctic Foxes and Snow Leopards skate with the coach(es) for an hour and fifteen minutes. We work on hockey and skating skills and play small games. On the other half of the rink, Wolves, Saint Paul Hockey Club alumni, family, and friends can skate on their own taking advantage of the reserved ice. Wolves and their friends and parents can use the other half of the ice.
Saturday Mornings
Arctic Foxes, Snow Leopards, and Wolves all play hockey together! Coaches keep the competition friendly, safe, and fair. As we get later in the season, kids can try a turn at playing goalie.
